✨ A Heritage Entrance, Reimagined ✨
When it comes to enhancing the entrance of a property, especially one with historic value, the challenge lies in striking the perfect balance between timeless design and modern functionality.
Our latest project in Sheffield brought us to a beautiful Grade II-listed property, where this balance was not just important — it was essential.
Respecting Heritage, Elevating Function
Historic homes have a charm that cannot be replicated, and with that charm comes responsibility. Any change to the exterior must be sympathetic to the building’s character while meeting today’s standards for safety, convenience, and durability.
Our client wanted gates that complemented the property’s heritage but also brought in state-of-the-art automation for ease of access and enhanced security. The answer was clear: a handcrafted pair of Accoya timber gates, tailored precisely to the site.
Why We Chose Accoya
Accoya is no ordinary timber. It’s a high-performance modified wood that offers:
Exceptional stability — minimal swelling, shrinking, or warping.
Unmatched durability — guaranteed to last for decades, even in challenging weather.
Sustainable sourcing — FSC® certified and environmentally responsible.
In addition to its technical qualities, Accoya has a beautiful, organic grain movement that adds warmth and authenticity. For this project, we selected generous timber sections to create a bold, confident profile that would suit the scale of the property.
Blending Beauty with Modern Engineering
The gates were designed to open outwards using underground motors, giving a seamless appearance without visible mechanical components. This preserves the clean, traditional look from every angle.
For safety, we incorporated purpose-made laser regulation hinges, which remove the “cheek-trapping” risk found in many in-between hanging designs — an important feature, especially for family homes or properties with regular visitors.
The finish was equally important. We applied a rich dark walnut stain using premium Sikkens products, known for their deep colour, UV resistance, and long-term protection.
Complete Control and Security
Security and access control were key priorities for the client. We integrated a Videx intercom system connected to a magnetic lock on the pedestrian gate. This setup allows the homeowner to manage entry with complete control — whether welcoming guests, accepting deliveries, or ensuring the property remains secure at all times.
The End Result
What stands today is more than just a set of gates. It’s a statement piece that enhances the home’s frontage, adds practical convenience, and preserves the historic charm of a much-loved Sheffield property.
Built for safety. Finished for style. Installed to last.
If you’re considering upgrading your property’s entrance — whether for security, style, or both — we’d be delighted to help you design something that reflects your taste and meets the highest standards in craftsmanship and technology.
